Web Development
I have been developing accessible websites in hand-coded XHTML, CSS, JavaScript, XML and XSL for over eight years, and have many years' experience of coding web applications in Perl, PHP and SQL. I am a competent administrator of Apache and Linux and have administered a number of web analytics tools. -
Web Production
I have produced a number of websites from scratch, using my project management skills to bring together content creators, site designers, technical staff and management. I have meticulous attention to detail, and because I understand the whole process of creating a website, I am great at seeing the bigger picture. -
Web Journalism
I am an expert in creating impeccable website content, having cut my teeth in the world of print media for four years. I have written and produced three personal websites that the British Library considers to be 'of cultural, historical and political importance', resulting in a request for them to be included in the UK Web Archive. -
Content Management Systems
At the V&A and Museum of Childhood I managed a full, enterprise-level content management system, and I have an excellent knowledge of using XML, XSL and Velocity to implement accessible websites within a CMS environment. I also know plenty about workflows, communities, CMS user interfaces and security issues. -
Online Communities
I am an expert in hosting and moderating online communities, having run the BBC's busiest online community for three years. I also have excellent experience of the legal issues surrounding user-generated content and moderation, and I wrote guidelines on defamation and copyright that the BBC still uses. -
People Skills
My communication skills are excellent, both on paper and in person, and I am great at being the glue that binds a successful project together. I can communicate on all sorts of levels, from technical to editorial to marketing to secretarial, and I work very well as part of a team.
