BBC
I took the BBC Learning Zone Clips Library from a set of Photoshop files through to a working, database-driven site in a quarter of the time they had allocated, and was able to use the time gained to implement a tool to enable teacher contributions, plus a reporting system that makes life considerably easier for the site's editorial team. -
DNA
The technology that powered h2g2 was spun off into a separate project called DNA, and I was appointed Editor of the project, which meant I played a central role in developing DNA into the platform that the BBC now uses to power all of its message boards and online community websites. -
h2g2
I was solely responsible for developing the editorial direction of the h2g2 site, and I built up a seven-person content and community team from scratch, driving the project forward from start-up to success. The Director of BBC New Media was so impressed with h2g2 that his department acquired the site and my team. -
Museum of Childhood
As part of the relaunch of the Museum of Childhood website, I worked closely with the designers to create HTML designs that were not only accessible, but also suitable for coding in a CMS environment. I then took those designs and re-engineered them in XSL to produce the final, working website. -
Personal Websites
My three personal websites have been a resounding success, with two of them being leaders in their field. The British Library considers them to be 'of cultural, historical and political importance', and has requested permission for them to be included in the UK Web Archive. -
Surrey County Council
Working on the council's intranet project, I took the 185-page statement of work that Percussion had prepared for them, and implemented the bulk of it in Rhythmyx over a three-month period, creating 19 of the 22 required content types, and over 90 separate page and snippet variants. -
Victoria and Albert Museum
I managed all technical aspects of the V&A website, including revamping the website to be accessible, taking a very unreliable CMS implementation and making it stable and useable, and adding a number of key Web 2.0 technologies to the site, such as blogs, RSS feeds and podcasts. -
Which?
Joining the project to implement a completely redesigned website into the company's Rhythmyx CMS, I drove development of the new site in Velocity, implementing the site framework and developing a number of key aspects of the most complex Rhythmyx installation in the UK. -
Xara
At Xara, a small software house that sells its products online, I was responsible for building a template-based system to generate a site for selling fonts, and I also built a shopping cart in ASP, using VBScript to talk to a Microsoft SQL Server back-end. My code is still in use, some eight years later.
