Subject: Leytonstone to Barkingside walk

I found your site while researching the maker of the bell in the cupola at Barkingside station. I'm not sure I understand your comment that the station "marks a shift away from the more modern Tube designers like Charles Holden, back to the Edwardian era" as having been built in that era, it cannot be described as a "leap back." Surely the stations of Charles Holden, etc. were a leap forward?

Hi Trevor.

Good question!

In that excerpt, when I'm talking about a shift back to the Edwardian era, I'm talking about the progression through history as you walk the line. So I could say the following in a similar vein:

"As you walk from Leytonstone to Barkingside, you pass through relatively modern stations like Redbridge, before coming back to the Edwardian era as you finish at Barkingside."

Does that help clarify what I mean? I'm only talking about the walk progression, rather than comparing old and new stations and saying one is a leap back compared to the other one.

I hope this makes sense!

Best wishes,

Mark
